Chinese Government orders Microblogs to enforce Real name registration

Chinese government has ordered micro blogging websites to enforce real name registrations. The government has given 3 months time to accomplish this task. This move was expected as Chinese officials warned several months ago that a strict social media policy was coming. Furthermore, since China has already banned Twitter and Facebook, it has to deal only with domestic companies and that means that the government can go to any extent to make sure that the new social media policy is followed.

China based Weibo.com, which run by Beijing based Sina Corp, is a micro blogging site similar in functionality to Twitter and has more than 250 million users worldwide. Since this policy applies to all the China based micro blogging websites, the foreign users of Weibo.com will also be affected by this policy.

Is RIM going to change its leadership?

According to some reliable sources, due to the bad sales, RIM may change its Chief Executive officers Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie. RIM has faced huge losses in the past months. RIM’s Blackberry, which was once a fan favorite, has now lost its position as it is facing a very tough competition from the iPhone and the Android based handsets.

And to add more to the miseries of RIM, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 based handsets have reported sales more than Blackberry and it is expected that it may continue to do so in the near future as Microsoft has collaborated with Nokia and their product by the name of Lumia 800 has already hit the smartphone market.

Research In Motion’s Blackberry became an instantaneous hit when it was first launched. It continued to retain its position as a fan favorite for a long time but after the arrival of Android and the iPhone, it lost its position as well as reputation. Plus RIM was under trouble a few months back when it declined to provide the access to the Blackberry Messenger service to the governments of many countries.
