Google will begin rolling out several interface changes in Gmail this week, confirming a video leak from two weeks ago.
“We’re excited to finally share Gmail’s new look with you. We’ll be bringing these changes to everyone soon, but if you’d like to make the switch right away, we’re rolling out a ‘Switch to the New Look’ link in the bottom-right of Gmail over the next few days,” Google wrote in a blog post.
Later you’ll be able to switch to the new look by clicking on Switch to the new look in the bottom-right of your Gmail.
Features include :
Streamlined conversations
Conversation view will be completely redesigned to help you read through your email threads. Also you’ll now see profiles pictures for your contacts.
Elastic density
Elastic density refers to the ability to auto resize your Gmail interface to fit any size window screen. You can also change pixel display density (choices: cozy, comfortable, or compact?)
New HD themes
Google has also teamed up with iStockphoto to create some high-res themes.
Smarter navigation
Smarter navigation puts a permanent navigation panel on the left, which keeps labels and chat contacts in view at all times.
Better search
Gmail has improved its inbox search function. Instead of a single search bar, it’s now a dropdown menu that lets you define your own search filters.
