Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. has lowered the entry price of some of its tablet computers. It has lowered the price of its Xoom tablet, which will be available in the market for $379 this week. It has been dubbed as ‘Family Edition’ of the existing Xoom tablet. The only major difference between the two editions of Xoom tablet is that the family edition of Xoom comes with a 16GB memory. Xoom is being sold at $499 currently and we reckon that Motorola is targeting teenagers with the family edition this time.
Motorola has come up with this plan because it is currently having a tough time in Tablet market because of the huge success of the iPad. The iPad is available at the starting price of $499 and on the other side, some of the Motorola tablets are worth more than $700. So, logically, if you are getting an iPad at $499, you would be a Motorola fan boy to still buy the costly Motorola tablet.
But now with the release of Xoom family edition, it seems that Motorola finally has seen their flaw. They now acknowledge that if a tablet is costlier than the iPad and still doesn’t have better functionality and richer feature set than the Apple’s beast, no one is ever going to buy it.
Not only Motorola, but each and every Tablet making company is facing a tough competition from the iPad. And if some rumors are to be believed, Apple may unveil the iPad 3 or an upgraded model of the iPad 2 this year or in the early 2012 and that will for sure trigger the ongoing race between the tech giants for the supremacy in the Tablet computer market.
Now the only thing Motorola requires is a hit because a sales boom at this time will surely boost the morale of the company and who knows, maybe Motorola will introduce much better products in the future which may be better than the existing products of the company.
What do you guys think? Will you stick to your iPad or will you give Motorola a chance? Are you going to buy the family edition of Xoom?
